David - Please don't missunderstand my possition here. I do not claim that the Savage is a powerhouse in terms of HP. However, its HP is respectable and its torque is unreal. When considering a lower gear ratio and lower RPMs for Highway cruising, the torque comes into play more than this forum seems to give credit for. I have no doubts that this bike will be able to pull a taller pulley. In fact, a gentleman on this forum in the late 90's replaced his belt drive with a chain drive from a Big DR...His top speed hit just above 100mph, which would be just fine for a 650cc bike. If it can be done on a chain, it can be done on a belt.
The "plenty of power" comment is just that. It does have pleny of power or all of us would not have purchased it. My bike had 34hp on a dyno in Sturgis SD the 1st year I went. The 2nd year, after some head work (simple port and polish) at Sturgis was very close to 36hp. There are hidden ponies yet to find in this little thumper...don't give up on finding them, after all...thats the name of the game. We find something good..and make it faster, louder, neater than it was.
